Bumble Nums Banana Spilt with a Twist!

These popsicles are easy to make and are a brilliant, tasty dairy free alternative. For the topping we used both normal chocolate and a dairy free version, which can satisfy any child, even one with dairy allergies!

Having a child with allergies can be difficult when in a situation where they are the minority or only one who cannot have whatever everyone else is eating. As children grow older, they start to realize when they are served something different to everyone else. You want to make them feel included wherever possible and if there is the option to make something that we can all have as a family then that is an easy choice. Using coconut milk instead of normal milk, adds amazing flavour and pairs brilliantly with bananas.  

So in the words of the Bumble Nums, it’s YUM YUM!


Bumble Nums Banana Split Popsicles

Ingredients:

  • 3 large bananas
  • Tin of coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp of vanilla essence
  • 1 cup (200g) dairy free chocolate or normal milk chocolate

Appliances:

  • Blender/liquidiser
  • Microwave/oven top, pan and glass bowl
  • Popsicle moulds

Method:

  1. Chop your bananas up into pieces and put them into your blender. Pour in your coconut milk and turn on the blender to liquidise them.
  2. Once liquidised, measure out your lime juice and vanilla essence and add to the mixture. Turn the blender on again to combine.
  3. Pour the mixture into your ice lolly moulds and put into the freezer. Leave for a few hours.
  4. When you are ready to eat them, cut up the chocolate. If you have a microwave put them in a microwavable bowl and microwave until melted. If you do not have a microwave, put the chocolate in a glass bowl on top of a saucepan of boiling water on the stove top. Make sure the glass bowl does not touch the boiling water. Stir the chocolate until it melts. Once melted, turn off the stove top.
  5. Allow the melted chocolate to cool down for 5 minutes.
  6. Take your popsicles out of the freezer and extract from the mould. One by one dip your lollies into the melted chocolate, just long enough to coat the top of the lolly.
  7. If you would like to add sprinkles then do so now.
  8. EAT!
